Install Macbuntu on my old PC

Although I personally really love standard Ubuntu themes, I decided to install Macbuntu on my old PC. I know it is not a real Mac. But I have to admit the design of Mac OSX is really simple, clean, easy to use. Thanks to the developers of Macbuntu to make this availableto users. We don’t need to buy an expensive real Mac, but just want to taste its simplicity.

Now it is even make our life much more easier. Someone have prepared an ISO version of Macbuntu!

You don’t have to type any command. Download the suitable file with your PC: 32 or 64bit, Intel or AMD processor, burn it to a CD, restart your PC then wait for few minutes. Your Macbuntu is ready. What I like with this ISO installation is the Macbuntu theme is available to all (local) users. Unlike the Macbuntu do-it-yourself-install version, the theme only available to the admin user.

I like to thanks to Steve Jobs and his team too, and I will ask him (if he read this article), to allow and let Macbuntu growth. Hope he like the idea to share his Mac OSX great design theme available to users for free.

Macbuntu on Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat

For those who just want to play around with this theme can try with non-ISO version. The installation procedure is pretty simple. But you have to be admin user to have this theme.

If you’re using Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx:
wget -O /tmp/Macbuntu-10.04.tar.gz
tar xzvf /tmp/Macbuntu-10.04.tar.gz -C /tmp
cd /tmp/Macbuntu-10.04/

If you’re using the new Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat:

wget -O /tmp/Macbuntu-10.10.tar.gz
tar xzvf /tmp/Macbuntu-10.10.tar.gz -C /tmp
cd /tmp/Macbuntu-10.10/

If you wish to uninstall:

Good luck!
